Scanning calorimeters can be programmed to step through isothermal ramps.  This is very useful for exploring the compatibility between a compound with excipients for both solutions and solid mixtures.

Note that lactose had no apparent change in energy output over time and temperatures.  The amine began to show noticeable non-zero energy output (exothermic) at 65 C.  The blend showed a significantly larger output than the sum of lactose and amine results would predict at 55 and 65 C.
