In water the whole tablet dissolved in about 100 seconds with a Cmax of about 15 seconds.  However, only the enteric coating was found to dissolve in pure antacid media.  The bulk tablet disintegrated, but did not dissolve.  These results correlated with an observed decrease in in vivo bioavailability when subjects used OTC antacid.

The thermal method does not require any sample filtration and can be performed without development of a UV or HPLC method.  This makes it a powerful screening and QC tool for dissolution testing of pharmaceuticals, dyes, pigments, photoresists, etc., especially in the preformulation stages of product development.
